Green Burial Philosophy
Natural burial at The Windmills allows a full coffin burial in a peaceful meadow or woodland setting.

Graves can be demarcated with wooden and slate memorial plaques or one of our native British memorial trees creating a peaceful, lasting place of remembrance.
British wildflowers are permitted, but NOT garden varieties. We welcome any and all communication before planting.

This approach allows the landscape to evolve naturally, encouraged biodiversity, creating a memorial woodland over time.
Vision
A natural or green burial is centred on minimising environmental impact while allowing a gentle return to the earth. The body is laid to rest using biodegradable materials such as simple wooden coffins or shrouds, with no embalming using toxic chemicals.
The burial ground is cared for as meadow or woodland rather than manicured lawns and headstones, encouraging wildlife and native plant growth. This approach supports the natural environment and significantly reduces carbon emissions when compared with conventional burial practices.
